Although Next Step Sports' college recruiting services officially began helping athletes in 2002, we've actually been connecting athletes who want to play college sports with college coaches for years. We formalized this service so we could meet the growing demand for this type of assistance. The bottom line is, there are a lot of athletes that are overlooked every year who would like to play college sports. Our goal is to help student athletes realize their dream by providing education, personal consultation, and promotion to college coaches around the country.
Our program consultants, who are "hand-picked" for their experience and backgrounds in sports and dedication to our clients, along with Greg Barton, former NFL Quarterback and college coach, provides you with the assessment, advice, and contacts that will get our clients the proper exposure to college coaches across the country.

During the time my children were growing up, I would receive around 35 to 50 calls each year from families whose sons and/or daughters were now seniors in high school. They were parents of kids who I coached in youth sports when they were young. The calls came (and still do) each year in November, February and May. The faces and names change from year to year, but the comments and questions are always the same.
-
“Can you help us find a college that will give my son a football scholarship?”
-
“I know you have lots of connections in colleges. Our basketball coach can't help our son, can you make some calls for us?”
-
“We thought we had it made. Our daughter was getting 5 letters a week from colleges, and now she has nothing?”
These and many other questions and statements came my way every year. Why November? Simple, it’s towards the end of football and soccer season and the parents are now becoming quite concerned because “that PAC-10 offer has not been made to their son”. As we approach February, parents of the basketball kids start having some real concerns. In May, the track and field, softball and baseball parents are becoming quite upset. This has and always will be an issue with parents all over the country.
I start working with athletes when they are sophomores in high school getting them ready for college. We begin looking at financial assistance and getting all the proper paperwork completed when the athletes are Juniors. My daughters were Division 2 players and ended up at Western Oregon College playing volleyball. They both ended up with nice financial packages because we started early. I feel so good that my wife and I spent the time necessary getting them situated. Some of my best moments today are watching the college volleyball
In my opinion, your student should enjoy their high school career and not have to stress out about college. There are a lot of athletes that end up not playing very well as Seniors because their focus is off the playing field. They are thinking way too much about college and not enough about the business at hand. The same is true for parents. They should enjoy the high school years, but, unfortunately, most completely stress out. That’s why it’s important to put Next Step Sports' recruiting service to work for you. We can’t promise you, or your son or daughter, an athletic scholarship, but we can guarantee you that we'll use our connections to promote and market you to schools around the country.
We wish each and every student athlete the best in reaching all of their dreams.
Sincerely,
Greg Barton
